Music industry guy often befuddled at the insanity of large portions of the music business and staggered at some of the shit that gets signed..
I will get stuff wrong on here - but I bet you I get more stuff right!

Love this record. The keen-eyed amongst you will recognise them as the band formerly known as ‘Nymph’ who I wrote about here in the middle of last year.

I know I go on about this lot.. I know I do.. and I’m really sorry but.. why?
Why did they get signed? How did they get signed? Who signed them for goodness sake? Were they high drunk having an ‘off’ day?
They’re really not very good and the real shame is there’s unquestionably a fantastic band somewhere that could have been signed instead and would have a genuine chance of making the label money on a long-term, multi-album basis and in multiple territories across multiple revenue streams (live, merch, records, streaming and even publishing income if part of the deal).
I totally agree that it’s easier to predict failure than success in music because so few bands make it 'big’ but signing bands with potential is a delicate judgment not a 'hit and hope’ proposition.
I can only imagine that the latter is the explanation here.
Like this band a lot..
Their full debut album is currently streaming on Rolling Stone (click here) and is very good indeed.
Have been keeping an eye on this one for a loooong time. After some initial skepticism I take it back.. they can write a song and have the requisite tools to do well in the US (and elsewhere) too.
